Michael Bordofsky, M.D. — at Palliative Care Consultants of Santa Barbara

Michael Bordofsky, M.D.

Dr. Bordofsky practices Internal Medicine in Santa Barbara. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He has been a Hospice Medical Director for VNA Health since 1995 and helped create the Palliative Care Consultation Service at Cottage Hospital. He is the managing partner of Palliative Care Consultants of Santa Barbara, Inc. and in 2012 he led PCCSB to a Medicare Innovation Award for the DASH program, completing a successful demonstration of the benefits of rapid response home visits to seniors.

Michael Kearney, M.D.

Michael Kearney, MD, has spent over forty years working as a physician in Hospice and palliative medicine. He trained and worked at St. Christopher’s Hospice in London with Dame Cicely Saunders, the founder of the modern hospice movement, and subsequently worked for many years as medical director of Our Lady’s Hospice in Dublin, and later with Professor Balfour Mount at McGill University in Montreal. He retired from full time practice in 2023 but continues to practice part time. A distinguished educator and author, he has dedicated himself to projects applying the lessons he learned at the bedside of the seriously ill, to ways in which he can help heal our planet. In 2023 he launched The Becoming Forest Project, offering deep resilience training for uncertain times.

Natasha Marston, M.D.

Dr. Natasha Marston is Board Certified in Family Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine. After medical school at UCLA and completed a Palliative Medicine Fellowship with the Cedars-Sinai-West Los Angeles VA program. She has been enjoying her work as an Associate Medical Director for VNA Health and Serenity House since 2012. In addition to this role she enjoys the important work of raising her young son and nurturing her family and community.

Eric Trautwein, M.D.

Dr. Eric Trautwein practices Internal Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Medicine in Santa Barbara. He is President of PCCSB and has been a leader in multiple clinical services including VNA Health’s Hospice program, the Palliative Care Consultation Service at Cottage Hospital, and was a co-recipient of a Medicare Innovation Award for the DASH Program which provided a successful multi-year demonstration of the benefits of home based care for frail seniors. He is married to a fellow physician and together they share the happy task of raising two daughters.

Deborah Meyers, M.D.

Deborah Meyers, MD is board certified in Internal Medicine (1999) and Hospice and Palliative Medicine (2012). She has started two outpatient palliative care clinics, in Washington State, and Santa Barbara, California. She is now medical director of the Palliative Care Consultation Service at Santa Barbara Cottage hospital. She enjoys teaching physicians and health care professionals about end of life care. In her free time, she loves being in nature, sailing, hiking, and doing scuba diving.

Sergio Rubio, M.D.

Dr. Rubio graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine. His personal, compassionate, and thorough approach to medical care has helped him to rapidly grow his practice and familiarized him with the unique needs of the Santa Barbara community. Dr. Rubio has an interest in educating patients and preventing disease, as well as treating patients with chronic medical conditions. Dr. Rubio grew up in California in a Spanish speaking household and is valued for offering the highest quality of care to the Spanish speaking community members in their native language.

Camille Hunter, M.D. — at Palliative Care Consultants of Santa Barbara

Camille Hunter, M.D.

Dr. Camille Hunter received her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital followed by a Geriatric Fellowship at UCLA. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine and is one of only a handful of geriatricians practicing on the California Central Coast. She specializes in treating health issues that affect older adults, such as mild cognitive impairment, dementia, falls, and frailty. She also works as a part time hospice physician with VNA Health’s home hospice program. Dr. Hunter is known for her ability to guide patients through the aging process with humanity and empathy.

Julie Galavis, N.P.

Julie Galavis graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee as a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Prior to that, she obtained her Bachelors in Nursing and Bachelors in Emergency Medical Services at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She is certified in Hospice and Palliative Care. She has been working in long term care for the past 7 years. She prefers to focus on individualized, compassionate care with all of her patients. She enjoys spending time with her family and reading.

Sarah Kempe-Mehl, M.D. — at Palliative Care Consultants of Santa Barbara

Sarah Kempe-Mehl, M.D.

Dr. Sarah Kempe-Mehl has practiced neurology in Santa Barbara since 2013. She attended Harvard Medical School, then completed residency at University of California, San Francisco. This was followed by additional fellowship training in neurological movement disorders (which includes the care of Parkinson’s disease, other atypical movement disorders, dementia, etc). She spends the majority of her professional time working with Palliative Care Consultants of Santa Barbara, Inc., seeing patients with Parkinson’s disease and dementia in neuropalliative care clinic. She is married to a fellow physician, and they are thankful to be raising their family in Santa Barbara.
